The sequel to the award-winning Weapon of Flesh, Weapon of Blood continues the story of Lad, a man crafted of magic and flesh to be the most lethal assassin the world has ever known.

A weapon becomes a person.

The Grandfather is dead, and Lad is free to live his life as he chooses…as long as he chooses the Assassins Guild, of course.

Lad’s job is to protect Master Hunter Mya, a difficult proposition with a guild war brewing and death waiting around every corner. Envious rivals plot to eliminate Mya, even as the Assassins Guild Grandmaster seeks to promote her.

Lad’s solace is his loving family. But the blessings of love and friendship vie with the despair of fear and doubt. And so much gained means that much more to lose.

Suspicion and betrayal abound as the Assassins Guild factions strive for supremacy. Even Mya harbors secrets so deep that she will kill to prevent them from being revealed. Lad does not know who to trust, but that is not the worst of it.

For, unbeknownst to Lad, he is no longer the only weapon of flesh…

Weapon of Blood Weapon of Flesh Series Book 2 edition by Chris A Jackson Literature Fiction eBooks

This book falls into the same category as "Tower Lord" by Anthony Ryan. If you haven't read it, good for you. I will give a brief overview of another book, but bear with me. It's for a good reason.
Anthony Ryan wrote the book "Bloodsong" which is a phenomenal book. Great cast. Great story. His sequel "Tower Lord" is a disaster. Terrible characters. Terrible pacing. And worst of all the main character is no longer the main character. Unlike the first book the sequel stars multiple pov which I have nothing against, but it simply does not fit to the spirit of the first book.
This book shares the exact same problem. The main character gets sidelined and we get a lot more pov about characters I care nothing for. And worst of all Mya now gets a promotion to main character number two. I like her enough, but she doesn't merit that status. None of this would actually be problem IF we saw more of Lad's exploits, but unfortunately we only see him for about twenty-five percent of the book. And that's me being generous since most of the time Lad is doing nothing.
Honestly I like Lad. I want to see him be a badass and kick some serious assassin butt in the night, and then sit back relax with coffee in the morning.
If I wanted soap opera I'd watch Sex and the City, which is what this book has come to. Not here in the grand tales of sword and sorcery.
Stopping the series right here.Still good book. Just not for me.

Weapon of Blood Weapon of Flesh Series Book 2 edition by Chris A Jackson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This sequel to Weapon of Flesh is every bit as good as the first book. It's hard to put down, kept me up late reading several nights. The characters are well developed and compelling, the plot is enthralling, and the action nonstop. There are thrills and surprises in every chapter. I can't wait to read the third book.

Very good second installment, Greg story and I loved the development of the characters, not a full moment, now on to the next book
I really am enjoying the storyline in this series. The conclusion of this volume was a strength as well. While I would not call it a "twist" ending, it deviated from what I expected while remaining logical within the story line.

The main character of this series is fascinating to me - a stolen child who was raised to be a lethal emotionless assassin who overcomes his struggle to find his humanity but is constantly being drawn back into the violent guild underworld.

The only drawback I found in this volume was that it was a bit of a slow pace in terms of plot development. However, the overall story line kept me interested and engaged throughout the book and I enjoyed the writing style and delivery of the author as well.

I look forward to the third installment.
I liked the 1st novel of the series, and delightfully purchased the 2nd novel when it came available. It was a quick read, but entertaining. The characters (at least 2 of them) become less 2 dimensional, and start to show real promise. I like the writing style of the author and his care in crafting a scene.
What I didn't like about this novel (4 instead of 5 stars) was the rushed the 'final' confrontation felt. It started with a small conflict that quickly escalated, a short interlude of preparation and into the classic stand-off, with it all resolved within a few short pages (kind of like the Scooby-doo 2 minute mystery wrap-up).
The title is a quote from the book actually and what a fantastic read it is. This is book 2 of the Weapon of Flesh trilogy (as book 1 was itself named Weapon of Flesh). You can read this as a stand alone but I recommend reading the first as well because you get to know Lad's character (the protagonist) a bit better before you read this one.

While the first book narrates the creation and training of Lad, this one focuses more on the human element that he has found in life. It starts some time after the first book ended. This book has all the elements of the first magic, awesome fights, intrigue and deception plus a monster. It certainly has an Arabian Nights feel to it due to the fact that there is an Assassins Guild, a Thieves Guild and an Emperor and Noblemen and City Guards.

It is well written and fast paced & I really got into the fight scenes (which I usually glaze over). The action is described with detail to the discipline and style of origin (you'll learn about the various fighting styles Lad is trained in from the first book).

The book is well formatted and the language of the story is precise and poetic at the same time. The author doesn't waste time with pretentious nonsense. It is written in a manner where you don't have to constantly go back & see which character was which. Just read the book, I bet you'll enjoy it.
Remember the Dedication after you read this book, after all it practically screams for us fans to pester our beloved author for the next installment. SORRY could not pass up this chance to get the final installment a little bit quicker. BTW we are not pest we just love this series - Then Again IF you want to supply us with your personal info we can all pretend to be part of the thieves guild & follow you to help keep you safe / aka stalk you - me I'm just kidding but if you keep writing like this...

On to the review, real easy if you read the 1st book you are probably as hooked as me so no matter what I say you will buy it anyway - & BUY IT YOU SHOULD. You will not be disappointed, the plot indeed thickens in this latest installment. Lad still has that innocent gooey inside with the wrappings of a Doberman / Navy Seal / Jason Bourne all squeezed into one. This story mostly stays the course, there are no side stories this is & continues to be about the Weapon. Well maybe one little twist also in the description (so no real spoiler alert here), it looks like there may be another Weapon.

In short there will be BLOOD! Maybe some victories, maybe some defeats but one thing will not change Don't even think of messing with Lad / The Weapon - love that they call him The Weapon. Enjoy fellow hero worshipers & those of us who root for the good guy with more then a little bite to his game.
